  4. Detecting the Invisible: Building Electrochemical Sensors for Small Molecules

Date: August 3-4, 2026

Time: 9:00 A.M. - 4 P.M.

Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring how scientists design sensors to detect critical small molecules like dopamine and glucose. Featuring the research of Dr. Aida Ebrahimi at Penn State, this professional development session will guide secondary chemistry and physical science teachers through:

• Electrochemistry fundamental for biosensing
• Materials selection and sensor performance
• Sensor sensitivity, specificity, and detection limits
• Data analysis of electrochemical measurements

Participants will build and test their own simple electrochemical sensor and leave with practical experience to bring cutting-edge science into the classroom.
