Teaching Climate Sciences in K-12

Workshop #1: Resources for Teaching about Climate and Earth Sciences

Thursday, August 6th, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

This FREE workshop will review content, activities, and other free teaching.  We will have breakout group discussions of implementation and of strategies for using resources when teaching online. We will also welcome participant sharing of other favorite climate and energy education resources.  Examples of the teaching resources include:

Workshop #2: Tools for Teaching Fundamentals of Climate Change Science

Thursday, August 20th, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

This FREE workshop will focus on teaching the basics climate change, including demonstrations and activities educators can use with students, and how to find and plot climate data, and ideas toward interpretation and discussion.   Primary topics will include:

  • how greenhouse gases trap heat
  • trends in greenhouse gas concentrations and temperatures,
  • how carbon cycles through Earth environments,
  • how much carbon is released from burning fossil fuels, and
  • how to find and plot climate and CO2 data for local and global environments.
